Angry newbie with graphics problems

Hi guys
[
I just recently acquired Fedora Core 3. I'm new to linux. Been suffering all my life using windows. I was so excited to get rid of it, that I forgot how unfamiliar I am with linux.

For one I can't figure out my ati radeon 9200 graphics drivers and nvidia.

I used tux racer as an indication ( very simple, bad example, but will get my point across). When I first installed fedora core 3, tux racer worked nicely, fast, etc a bit edgy, like low quality 3d graphics but it worked.

When I installed my ati radeon 9200 drivers, tux racer became very slow. I could do a whole bunch of things in the time it took that penguin to walk to the slope.

Once I installed my nvidia drivers, oh then, what''s ur guess? I haven't seen the penguin since. Tux racer wont start, nothing 3d wont start.

I want to uninstall the ati drivers, have no clue how to, but then again, I need my powerful graphics so can someone help me get the ati drivers to work and the nvidia.

I've been to many forums, tried everything, and nothing worked.

One last thing: I've been holding all this in for a while: I want to have windows xp running as a dual OS with fedora. When I put the windows CD in, it says that it's checking for hardware and then I get a black screen which never goes away. damned eternal black screen.

Anyone know how to help me. Thank you.

A. T.

Installing Windows before Linux is the best way to solve your other problem. Don't give up on linux!

By the way, there is a newbies area in this forum. I'm not telling you to "get out of here" but you will get more answers to newbie questions there, and not duplicate questions which are likely to already be out there.

Thanx guys. Especially for the quick response.

No I won't give up on linux. I really like it. Windows always caused me problems. Soon enough linux will also take over, well u guys know that already.

One more thing, what nvidia 3d card do u recommend?

also, I can't install windows xp anymore, because it says checking hardware and then shows me a black screen. I have no idea how to get past that. I brought it in to a technician and he did it. I can't figure out how to do it,
Any ideas?

Thanx

Well, the equal in the NVidia line to the Radeon 9200 is the GeforceFX 5200... If you're looking to spend the same amount as you did on the 9200, there ya go...

Wink not looking for equal, looking for the best

Hey

I'm not really looking for an equal, I'm looking for a top notch graphics card that will be 100% compatible with fedora core 3. Any suggestions? Thank you for the information.

It was weird cos when I contacted nVidia they informed that they don't make any graphics cards, rather put their chip in other companies' graphics cards?!?!?

Thanx

A. T.
