New ati drivers Fedora Core 3

Hi all I am currently installing the new ati drivers designed for xorg. The drivers are fglrx 6.8.0.. and there is a error.

FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.10-1.741_FC3smp/kernel/drivers/char/drm/fglrx.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
failed.
dmesg :
Warning: "pci_find_class" [/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/2.6.x/fglrx.ko] undefined

I have the source for the kernel installed and have installed drivers by compling them into the
kernel. The ati drivers wouldnt load could anyone give me a guess as to what this is so I can debug it.

Thanks

Woah!

Woah! There are Finally new drivers designed for X.Org? Well, ATI was too late, I already switched over to Nvidia. Sorry, I don't know how to help you, I would if I still had my old ATI in here.

Use an older kernel (2.6.9).

I have no problems with kernel-smp-2.6.9-1.681_FC3 (kernel-2.6.9-1.681_FC3) and the new xorg 6.8 ATI driver.

Here's my short ATI-Install howto:

1.) Change to runlevel 3 ("init 3" or edit /etc/inittab + reboot)
2.) Delete old kernel driver files (maybe not necessary)
# rm -rf /lib/modules/fglrx
3.) Install the ATI rpm-package
# rpm -Uvh --force fglrx_6_8_0-8.8.25-1.i386.rpm
4.) Backup your old xorg.conf...
# mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf-backup
5.) Run fglrxconfig (still writes XF86Config-4 as output ?!?)
# fglrxconfig
(Your mouse device is probably /dev/input/mice)
6.) Correct some fglrxconfig errors...
# ln -s /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Open xorg.conf an change the keyboard Driver from keyboard to kbd.
.
.
.
Section "InputDevice"

Identifier "Keyboard1"
# Driver "keyboard"
Driver "kbd"
.
.
.

7.) Restart X ( "init 5",...)

Anyone see improvements with the new driver? Worth the upgrade?

Hey, patfins, thanks for the little how-to. Worked perfectly.
This was the first time I could enable 3D in any Fedora on the first try!

I saw your post and decided to download the ATI Drivers and followed ATI's instructions. I didn't have to downgrade my kernel and everything went fine. I have 3D now. Thank You.
