Networking

Sorry if this has already been asked and i just missed the thread!

I have just installed Fedora Core 3 onto my computer and the internet worked fine (Like it always does with linux) but i cannot connect to my other computers over my home network.. When i go onto "Computer" on the desktop then "Networks" i see "Windows Network" but when i go onto that all i get is an empty folder. Any ideas how to fix this so i can connect to the files on the other computers?.

All the other computers are running windows 2000 corporate. The network goes through from the cable modem downstairs into a linksys router to split it to the computers downstairs then up to a hub upstairs which splits it between the two computers (This one running FC3 and another running win2k).

Hope this is all the info you need to help... If not ill try and get you as much info as i can. Im a linux newbie! Which is pretty bad as im going to have to start using it at work soon... Im a hardware engineer and they are expecting me to help setup the software on the computers in a few weeks when one of the software engineers are on holiday! Eek..

My first guess would be you installed the computer with a firewall turned on and that's what is causing the problem. Could be wrong, but check out "iptables -L -n" as root and see if it has anything in there. If so, you can always try "iptables -F" to flush all the entries and see if it works then.

Thanks, i can now see the computers but still cant access them (When i attempt to it comes up with "You do not have permission to access these files" but im guessing this is a windows problem so ill have to play around on those pc's to fix it)
