Nautilus not showing all files Fedora 16 & sound problems

Nautilus only shows Home, Downloads, File System and Trash. Pictures, Music & Documents are not shown as with previous versions.

Is this something new in Fedora 17 or is something wrong with Nautilus?

Also, my sound is way to loud. Sounds silly but whenever I boot my system the sound is very high, doesn't seem normal. When I play videos in VLC the voloume at 37% or 50% seems very very high.

Anything I can do to fix it apart from turning it down?

it almost sounds like your hardware dose not support fedora17
and it went into the "failsafe /dropdown" version of gnmoe-shell

install lxde desktop
it is in the fedora repos
and is on the full install DVD

Was that in response to the Nautilus issue or the sound?

both, from the description it sounds like Gnome3 fell back into fail safe crippled version

if hardware is not supported fedora drops down to a partially working back up

try a lighter weight Desktop Manager like LXDE

or you have not set up( configured) the NEW Gnome3 DE that fedora is using

This IS a FULL new clean install of fedora 17 ???
and NOT a inplace "upgrade"
if an upgrade
did you use the DVD or "preupgrade"

PS. most other distros are dropping Gmone3
most people hate it with a PASSION

as to the sound
have you used the sound icon in the system tray to lower it

but i am only guessing seeing as I have no idea just what your hardware is
you have not informed us.

for all i know it is a 12 year old computer
or a NEW tablet or netbook or a laptop .
