sorry i am a newb, but i was wondering if anyone knew of any tutorials or could help me with mythtv on fedora core 5? installing it with or without aptget?
There's an excellent tutorial by Jarod Wilson, which covers everything from hardware to remotes to drivers to mythtv itself. It hasn't yet been updated for FC5 (it still refers to FC4), though I had no problems when I just followed the tutorial with my FC5 installation. Any problems let me know, I'll try and help.
Hi, I have been trying to get MythTV to work on Fedora 5, and have had problems with getting the TV signal to work. I followed the entire directions, but once I get into MythTV frontend and go to watch Live TV, none of the channels work. The correct channel names show with the show information, but no video. It is just static.
I have my backend setup like Jarod's guide says. I setup my Tuner and then the cable settings with DataDirect.
While I was following along with his guide, I ran into this problem during the Video Capture section; when I get to the bottom of the "For ivtv-based cards (PVR-150/250/350/500, M179, MPG600, etc):" section, where you test the tuner signal to see if it works, I always get this error when I enter "/usr/lib/ivtv/ptune-ui.pl &" (without the quotation marks) in the terminal:
"bash: /usr/lib/ivtv/ptune-ui.pl: No such file or directory"
Does this mean ivtv didn't install properly? I followed the directions in his guide and received no errors.
Here is my setup:
AMD64 4000+
Asus A8N-SLI
2GB DDR400
Maxtor 250GB
XFX Geforce 7800GT
Audigy 2 ZS
Hauppauge PVR-150MCE with remote
Fedora Core 5 (with all current updates installed)
The MCE remote that came with the PVR-150MCE (green Windows button in the middle) doesn't appear to work yet. If I ever get the tuner to work I might be back on here for more help (if anyone is willing to help).
I could never get ptune-ui.pl to work either - however, in the MythTV setup, there's an automatic channel-scanning tool which does the same thing as the ivtv tool. So, I wouldn't worry about ptune-ui.pl not being there.
As for the remote control, there's a separate driver you have to load for that (lirc, the Linux Infrared Remote Control driver), which is mentioned in the Fedora MythTV howto but isn't actually part of ivtv.
I tried using the MythTV Scan for Channels inside of the mythtvsetup, but it still doesn't detect any channels. I tried changing the "/usr/bin/ivtvctl -p 4" to "-p 0" then 1-3. This is from the ivtv installation section of Jarods Guide. I went back and left it at -p 0 because I found out that on my PVR-150MCE the tuner is input 0.
Even though it looks like the tuner is on 0, I went through all the inputs anyway and tried mythtvsetup for each one, doing the channel scanner, and nothing still.
I really want to get this working but I have to admit that it is much easier in XP. Even though Windows MCE is pretty buggy, I can get it to work to play around with it.
Thanks for the last reply.
