Unhappy my usb gets mounted as read only despite all efforts

hi all I am using fc 8 on a intel based laptop.
I am trying to mount my usb drive but it always shows up as a read only file system and I can't rename or delete a file from it.
By the way I use it on windows machine and I can clearly see it is infected with couple of trojans - ntdetec1, regsvr, xlin9x etc.
I am trying to delete these files without any success.
Everytime I select or click on any file or folder a small lock appears and I can't do any delete or rename of the file/folder.
I even tried using mount -t vfat -o rw /dev/sdb1 /myUsb, but it didnot work !
Any suggestions ?
thanks in advance
nishith

Are you trying to mount as root? Root should have complete control of the drive. Is this a NTFS file system?

I guess you could zero the drive out with DD if nothing else works

Often when a removable device mounts read-only it's because Linux has found something hinky and is protecting you from making a bad thing worse. Try unmounting and running

dosfsck -nv /dev/sbd1

and if it reports a problem run

dosfsck -rv /dev/sbd1
