My Fedora 9 x86_64 usually gets down, is this my own problem?

The system is not responding.
The LED of Num Lock and Caps Lock on keyborad don't change when I press the relevant keys.
Only the mouse can make a little difference, but the cursor does't move smoothly on the screen, and the buttons don't respond to any mouse clicking.
What I could only do is to restart my system.
Does anyone have the same problem with me?

i turned off Desktop effects and the system hasn't halted unexpectedly until now. So i'm thinking if this is the reason.
