Multimedia plugins

I was wondering how to and where to go for installing plugin support for flash, .wmv, .avi, .mpeg, etc. I can't seem to play any of those files that worked in windows in linux.

I would consider myself a complete newbie with linux issues. I've been using windows exclusively for all of my computing experience. I just recently made the switch to linux.

Do you still need help with the multi-media?

If you do let me know, I can tell you where to download all the codecs and install them, plus all of the multi-media stuff. I got it in a Open Office doc, so I can remember how to do it myself.
