I'm running fedora core 5. Been having a few frustrating conflicts.. but i'm getting through them one at a time. Anyways. What i want to know is when i try to put in a CD. I get an error about It not able to mount the volume. Then i tried it in console, And got this
mount: can't open /etc/mtab for writing: Input/output error
i've been trying to do osme reasearch an haven't really gotten much. I know that fstab uses this file, tried to add this in fstab.
/dev/hdc /media/cdrom iso9660 ro,user 0 0
and still no go.. So, i'm not sure what to do, any suggestions will be appreciated.
Try this input. I did what you have before as well and i got that same error. I found this on the internet.. I have changed it to fit you, so you can copy & paste.
/dev/hdc /media/cdrom auto defaults,ro,user,noauto 0 0
I really dont understand. I changed absolutely nothing. All I changed was some permissions so i could run a webserver. But no hardware changes. It worked when i first installed fedora, now it does't.
I get a little popup error window message when i put it in and it's suppose to automatically mount it on my desktop.
Thanks for the suggestion thouhg. I also get that message when linux is booting up, about mounting the volume. If that will help any/
FC5 doesn't use fstab to mount a CD, well it will try if you put that line in there, but ordinarily it uses gnome-mount and udev. Don't ask me why. Try to mount it from the command line and see what it says. Something like:
$ gnome-mount -dv /dev/cdwriter
Check permissions on /etc/mtab. Assuming mine is correct, here it is:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 390 Aug 29 02:52 /etc/mtab
