I'm using fedora from VM. I want to format a CF from USB reader. Actually I do this but after that when I want to mount it it gives below error
[root@localhost /]# mount /dev/sdc1 /mnt
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdc1,
missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so
Before this process I do fdisk, and creat partition, the output of fdisk -l is;
root@localhost /]# fdisk -l /dev/sdc
Disk /dev/sdc: 1008 MB, 1008451584 bytes
32 heads, 61 sectors/track, 1009 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 1952 * 512 = 999424 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdc1 1 1009 984753+ 83 Linux
Then do the ext3 file system format, like;
[root@localhost /]# mkfs.ext3 /dev/sdc1
and it is ok.
Where is the problem, I don't understand. Can you help me?

Regards
you may need to explicitly tell it that /dev/sdc1 is ext3, i.e.
I have done this before but the error message same.
Actually I think there is a problem on Fedora ext3 format part. Because when I use my embedded board for format process (kernel is supplied from the board supplier) there is on any problem, I can format it and then when I connect this CF to a reader for PC, for the first plug, Fedora can understand that this CF is ext3 file format and, it can mount. But if you remove and insert again the USB reader, it can not understand that, it is ext3.
So, I think when I plug the correct formatted device to my Virtual Machine Fedora from USB, Fedora breaks some part of file system and after that I can not use this device again as a ext3 file.
How can I solve this, or how can I update ext3 file system for Fedora. When I write this command, I saw this version number;
[root@localhost /]# mkfs.ext3 /dev/sdc1
mke2fs 1.38 (30-Jun-2005)
Are you sure that there is nothing wrong with your device? What about trying to use another file system like ext2? I don't think you have a problem with mkfs being too old but I could be wrong.
Yes, I know that there is no any problem with my CF device. Because I can format this card with my embedded board kernel. But I can't to do this with Fedora virtual machine.
