Mount NTFS

I am having a hard time mounting my NTFS USB Hard drive. I am using FC2. I tried to do a modprobe ntfs and it can't find ntfs. This is pretty much a default install. I need to copy everything off so I can reformat to ext3. I have search for this and have done what I have found. Does FC2 have NTFS loaded. Any help please.

I configured NTFS support when i built my new kernel (i have FC2), and when I back to deal with stuff in my stock kernel it tells me the current version does not have stock support. That is on the stock 2.6.5-1.358. In case you have not tried it, view your hardware profiles and go to hard drives. Look for your external, mine is labeled sda1 and just type mount -t ntfs /dev/(name of your external, i.e. sda1) /(directory of your choice)
You have probably tried this but it never hurts to restate the obvious. And a direct answer to your question, my version of FC2 doesn't have ntfs support.

i can recall after the fresh install of FC2 i installed this kernel-ntfs-2.6.5-1.358 rpm and create an entry like below on my fstab. no kernel configuration or module loading whatsoever.

-----/etc/fstab
/dev/hda1 /mnt/NTFS ntfs ro,umask=0222 0 0

Try this link, theres info on NTFS drivers for linux.

http://linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net/downloads.html

The alternative would be to maybe compile a new kernel, i did that as soon as i got RC2, for a different reason, but its not that daunting. Im running 2.6.6 with ntfs capability.

For anyone not knowing how to do this, this guide i found on nvnews is pretty self explanatory.

# cd /usr/src
# wget ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kerne...-2.6.6.tar.bz2
(or download the 2.6.6 kernel from your favorite mirror)
# tar jxvf linux-2.6.6.tar.bz2
# rm linux
# ln -sf linux-2.6.6 linux
# cd /usr/src/linux
# make mrproper
# make xconfig

# make
# make modules_install
# make install

(this installs the new kernel and modifies grub.conf (or lilo.conf))
