How come the national blackout rules apply to mlbviewer but when I use the MLB site and adobe flash I can view those same games? How does the blackout restrictions work for mlbviewer?

I am a premium subscriber and the only games I get blacked out for are Toronto games.

Or, is it because NexDef is messed up atm?

I actually read the blackout_status in the SOAP responses (the request for media URL.) I'll be changing the way I get the media listings so that I can mark National Blackout games even before I make media requests. I was able to do that last year and so folks who weren't subject to those restrictions could say, "whatever" and click on through. I was really hoping that these media location replies would be customised by geographic location, e.g. the blackout status would not include national blackout for those where the blackout rules don't apply. This code has been in mlbviewer for a few weeks now and you're the first to tell me how it works for someone not in a blackout region.

If you want to watch a "national blackout" game this weekend before I have the listings code changed, you can use the nexdef.py tool. I gave you instructions for how to use this a few posts back.

Thanks for the feedback on this blind spot.

Tried to run it in nexdef.py but got a Connection refused error. Looks like line 1105 of urllib2.py was the issue. It says raise URLError(err) if that helps.

I need to see the full log. urllib2.py is not even my code.

Please run the command like:

Code:
$ ./nexdef.py <event-id> | tee nexdef.log
where event-id is the number like '14-123456-2009-04-24' that you got either from mlblistings.py or the 'z' screen in mlbviewer.py.

Then upload the nexdef.log file to pastebin.com and send me the link.

Thanks!

I think I got the pastebin thing going.

http://pastebin.com/mfdbafdd

There you go.

Actually, the code looks ok in the log for the actual setup. The error I get is after the code is done:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "./nexdef.py", line 392, in <module>
response = urllib2.urlopen(req)
File "/usr/lib/python2.6/urllib2.py", line 124, in urlopen
return _opener.open(url, data, timeout)
File "/usr/lib/python2.6/urllib2.py", line 383, in open
response = self._open(req, data)
File "/usr/lib/python2.6/urllib2.py", line 401, in _open
'_open', req)
File "/usr/lib/python2.6/urllib2.py", line 361, in _call_chain
result = func(*args)
File "/usr/lib/python2.6/urllib2.py", line 1130, in http_open
return self.do_open(httplib.HTTPConnection, req)
File "/usr/lib/python2.6/urllib2.py", line 1105, in do_open
raise URLError(err)
urllib2.URLError: <urlopen error [Errno 111] Connection refused>

This comes after the last portion of code in pastebin. Hope that helps.

These were the last lines on pastebin.

Code:
The game url parsed is:
aHR0cDovL3d3dy5tbGIuY29tL3B1YmFqYXh3cy9iYW1yZXN0L01lZGlhU2VydmljZTJfMC9vcC1nZW5lcmF0ZUtleS92LTEuMT9jb250ZW50SWQ9NDI2NzgwMyZpcGlkPTI0MTM1ODQ2JnBsYXliYWNrPU1MQl9GTEFTSF9TV0FSTUNMT1VEJnNlc3Npb25LZXk9Z3Z3MnQ0Rk9tN3dsQiUyQlFlOFc5OWJHQk1vUXMlM0Q=?mlbfpk=AFvMl8nHOj2WLJNC%2FkTUTPM4SaA%3D
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<fcs><ip>72.247.244.68</ip></fcs>
The game url parsed is:
http://local.swarmcast.net:8001/protected/content/adaptive-live/describe/base64:aHR0cDovL3d3dy5tbGIuY29tL3B1YmFqYXh3cy9iYW1yZXN0L01lZGlhU2VydmljZTJfMC9vcC1nZW5lcmF0ZUtleS92LTEuMT9jb250ZW50SWQ9NDI2NzgwMyZpcGlkPTI0MTM1ODQ2JnBsYXliYWNrPU1MQl9GTEFTSF9TV0FSTUNMT1VEJnNlc3Npb25LZXk9Z3Z3MnQ0Rk9tN3dsQiUyQlFlOFc5OWJHQk1vUXMlM0Q=?mlbfpk=AFvMl8nHOj2WLJNC%2FkTUTPM4SaA%3D&refetch=true
Most likely the error occurred after this and I need those lines. Basically, I need that Traceback code but I also need the context which is why I ask for the full log. If tee isn't picking up those last lines, you'll have to copy them from your shell output.

Just a curiosity but is it possible to add 16:9 aspect ratio to mplayer? Something along the lines that Veetle.com has? Where no matter how the stream is coming in you can change the aspect ratio? I know it may distort some streams but on Veetle it seems to work really well. Just a thought is all really no biggie since mlbviewer works well already.

If you're getting connection refused on the 'describe' link, it looks like nexdef isn't running. Either check to see if nexdef is running, or if it is, try stopping and restarting it.

On games that aren't in 16:9, you can use pan-scan to zoom to full-screen. Just press and hold the 'e' key until it fills the screen.

In other news, nexdef doesn't seem to like Yellow Dog Linux. I think this may be because java doesn' run on ppc. I've tried the alternatives in gij and the IBM version but neither run - nexdef comes up with exception errors, and will not connect. This is a shame, as their are loads of people screaming at MLB.TV to get their product running on ps3s.

Guess it's my Ubuntu PC until the non-nexdef version of mlbviewer comes out!

Don't hold your breath on the non-nexdef version of mlbviewer. I mean, it will come out, but there's only so much I can do with rtmpdump. For me anyway, it's quite useless for dumping and playing at the same time. It's even more useless for live games. The dumped file won't play but a frame every five seconds. You can try it for yourself with mlbdvr.py or soapevent.py. Whatever playback experience you achieve with those are what you can expect with the integrated mlbviewer code.

Maybe you should have got an Xbox instead? ;-)

That was pretty much my response once the ffmpeg nal encapsulation bug was ixed and I first watched one of those 720p 3000kbps streams via VDPAU. Quite an awesome product indeed.
