Theophile, the ubuntu/debian service for autobahn you wrote doesn't work for stopping the service. I still have to kill it manually with my interview question. I haven't traced the different library functions of ub/deb init.d scripts to figure out the error, though.

Ok I got it to work again but it only lasts for about 3 seconds then the mplayer window closes? Is there a setting that I have to change in order to maintain the stream?

That's odd. It works for me. Are you not using Ubuntu?

I'm using Ubuntu Intrepid on one system and Debian Etch on the other. Both print the "Stopping" message but neither actually stop the process.

Is there a time delay and I'm just not being patient enough?

Okay just one final question, how do you know if you are getting the HD feed? Just curious. Or are the feeds listed just the general feeds listed on MLB.com?

No, it works instantly for me. Java can't be run in "daemon mode" so the system process script runs it in nohup mode and issues it a PID, which the stop function manually kills.

Currently, you can only suggest the HD feed by setting the max_bps to 3000000 (that's 3 million.) If the game is covered in HD, the HD stream is not having problems at the server, and autobahn.jar thinks you can handle it (based on how well it is downloading and buffering the stream from the server), you should get an HD stream. Otherwise autobahn gives you the highest it thinks you can handle up to and including your max_bps.

Planned for Monday's revision is an interface similar to the flash player (except in cli-curses) that will allow you to select your "quality bar" and give you feedback from autobahn about which encoding it is currently using. I'm not exactly sure if I'll get the quality bar interface finished or if I'll just do auto-select up to your max_bps setting and give you visual feedback from autobahn itself which stream it is using. Initial testing seems to be that while you can ask for the highest quality all you want, autobahn still has final say. I have to do more investigation, write up some code, and test it to see exactly what kind of interface I'll provide.

I also plan to indicate which stream (home or away) is available in HD and/or use a configuration file option like prefer_hd=True which will auto-select an HD stream if available.

My thoughts are that the highest quality non-HD stream is still pretty darn good and I'd rather select a game based on the quality of the broadcast booth rather than whether it's HD or not. You can give me a game in Super-HD nose-hair resolution but if it's Hawk and DJ in the booth, I'll watch the other stream even if it's only 164K.

Condensed games should also be in the May 1 release (and probably by Monday's revision too.)

This is a warning about changes in Python language. I believe from python 2.5 to 2.6 the "md5" module was placed in the "hashlib" module with other secure hashing algorithms. It is saying that using the old module is deprecated and will not be provided at some future Python version. It is more of a warning to the developers of suds then to you. The only way you could "use hashlib istead" is to edit the suds source, but I imagine the suds developers will do this at some point on their own. It is safe to ignore this.

Aha. It seems VLC 0.9.9a works just fine with the streams. My issue was it was running out of stream and stopping playback, increasing the --http-caching option on the video_player command line solved this problem wonderfully.

Cool I will try the 3 million bps thing but it looks good when I do not add any limit anyways but will give it a shot and see what happens. The stream is so much more stable then the windows one I cannot believe the difference. I am watching the redsox/yankees on a windows machine and it has stopped twice and I had to reload it. On my 3 year old laptop I am running mlbviewer for the cubs/cards game and have no issues.

BTW go Jays!!! They winning 13-0 Woooo.

Thanks again for all the help. Really appreciate it. If you need me to test anything let me know, since I am a noob you can direct me to do whatever.

Thanks.

can you explain how you did that? I have 0.9.9a installed but only get sound, no video.

What are the specs on your 3-year old laptop?

Nexdef definitely places a greater performance requirement than last year. I had no problems with 800K on a 750 Mhz x 256 Mb laptop, but tonight it couldn't keep a nexdef stream to save its life.

Okay, hmmm...I couldn't get the Royals stream for more than a few seconds for the last hour or so of the game. Now I can't get the Dodgers stream. But, I can now get the Royals stream now that's it in archive.

But it's not a stream issue because my other laptop is able to get the streams. What a finish to the NYY-Boston game!

Specs are Intel Celeron 1.3Ghz with 1gb of ram, 60gb HD and integrated video. Its a Acer TravelMate 2300. Its 2 or 3 years old.

I did notice some things when trying to switch games I had to close out the Terminal and run java -jar autobahn.jar & again. Once I did that I could select a game again and after the 3rd or 4th try of loading the stream I would get it. This worked on 2 out of the 3 games I tried to watch today. It worked on the Cubs/Cars and TB/Oak but mplayer would freeze on the Sea/LA game (loaded this one on windows). Once they loaded there were no issues at all with the stream. Not like the windows stream I had going that froze twice - good thing it wasn't on the Youk homer.

I think maybe it has to do with the buffer being full because when I switch games the stream will start right away and then after 2 seconds mplayer closes. That's when I know i have to do the autobahn.jar thing again (sorry for the lack of linux lingo I am just learning). Is there a way to clear the buffer?

Go Jays

It very well might have to do with what version of ffmpeg you are using. I run Opensuse and there is a repository provided by Videolan that distributes updates of VLC every couple of days as well as ffmpeg, libx264 and such.

The fix for our FLV problems came down in ffmpeg r18533, and only occured about a week and a half or two weeks ago, so that is probably where the problem is. Otherwise, perhaps you need a more recently compiled version of VLC? I'm really not sure if it uses the ffmpeg dynamic libraries or if VLC is compiled with the code. Either way, I'm sure either VLC or ffmpeg isn't up to date with the fix.
