Hello!
Trying to watch the condensed version of yesterday's Cubs game I got this message(s):

I got mlbviewer working (eventually), thank you!, and enjoyed the HD broadcasts of the end of the season with a cheap $4 subscription from mlb.com. But now the Jays have made it into post-season, for at least one game.
MLB.com people tell me I have to have a Pay TV provider to sign-up for post season streaming? Is this true? I was ready to pay the $10 on this web page, until I read the fine print and talked to one of their people. I'm in Canada, but they tell me the rule below applies here too? I don't have a Pay TV provider, and don't want one:
I didn't have TBS or the MLB Network last season and I couldn't stream Dodgers postseason games. Just having the MLB.tv subscription doesn't mean anything once the season ends. The national networks blackout anyone who doesn't subscribe to their channel so if you don't have the cable channel you're out of luck. Sorry to be the (unofficial) bearer of bad news. If you can upgrade your cable subscription now may be the time.
After looking around a bit for post-season coverage, I discovered Sportsnet.com has the Blue Jay post-season games in HD in Canada at least. They don't officially support Linux, but I decided to give their 7 day free trial a go for the wild card game. Their stream doesn't work very well in Firefox on Linux Mint, but it works very well in Chromium. I'm not sure what their coverage of other teams is like, but I believe they have the NL wild card tomorrow night.
Now the Jays have won, and I'll have to pay the $25Can for a month I guess. Pretty pricey, but the video was better for me using the MLB.com stream on mlbviewer, with a lot less install fun. I'd get some video pauses on the mlb.com stream.

For the future, could you not drop spoilers for those in other time zones who will be watching on archive.

I had the same thought. I got the LQ digest email and read that post. Damnit. Guess there's no point in investing 3 hours in two teams I'm not really interested in now that I know the result.
Use the 'e' key to see the media listings view which is helpful for determining which preseason games have what media available.
Also, those of you who have been using mlbviewer for a few seasons or longer, please help out by answering the install and other frequently asked questions that come around this time each year.
Is MLB blocking linux viewers in 2017? I haven't been able to watch any spring training unless I'm using my Roku. Up until now I could open a browser, go to mlb.tv, select the game, log in, and watch. Now, after I log in, it hangs with no video. Blackouts aren't an issue and I know the game is available.

I no longer have MLB.tv Premium but I have been able to watch free ST games with mlbviewer. I did grab an svn update but I think I was able to watch video clips, if not free games, with the older version of mlbviewer.

Presumably this is with a browser, not with mlbviewer? The flash 24.0 plugins for firefox and chrome don't work with MLB.TV. You can get the old flash plugin (11.2.202.644) for firefox to play the RTMP streams but not the HLS ones, but the 11.2 plugins are no longer maintained so they may (and almost certainly do) have security holes in them. That is a doable last resort though if all else fails.
I'm trying to install mlbviewer on another system. Every time I try to fire up mlbviewer on the new install I get the "Missing dependency: python-gdata required for mlbclassics" error but I have python-gdata installed in the same place as another system where mlbviewer works just fine. I'm about to go bald with this one.

edit: I managed to save what hair I had left by building the package again and reinstalling. All is good now.
It looks like MLB may have made changes today breaking mlbviewer. It worked yesterday for the last spring game in Arizona, but the exhibition game (Angels Dodgers) in Anaheim today gives me this:
