SVN revision 417: Custom keybindings

Even if you have no intention of customizing the key bindings, please update to this revision to verify that the new feature doesn't break anything.

Added the ability to customize the key bindings.

Screens and actions have symbolic names and those names map to both the key binding and the help screen text. This way any changes you make to the key bindings will also be reflected in the Help screen.

The action names and the default keybindings are listed in the README file (search for KEYBINDINGS.)

Very simply, let's say you want to change listings to Esc and line score to 'l', you could add the following to $HOME/.mlb/keybindings (you'll have to create this file):

LISTINGS=27
LINE_SCORE=l

For printable characters, you can use the character value. For non-printable characters like Esc, use the decimal ASCII value (see "man ascii" to find that value.)

A complete list of the action names and their default key bindings are listed in the README file.

Please update to revision 417 and use it as you normally would. If nothing was broken, I'll upload this to sourceforge as 2013-sf2 so new downloads can get some bug fixes, the line score feature, and the custom keybindings.

I'm noticing issues getting svn updates at my local library.
Code:
$  svn up
svn: Can't connect to host 'svn.code.sf.net': Connection timed out
Does anyone have any ideas how I could fix this? I'd love to be able to get updated code but the library has become my primary way to get online.

Looks like sourceforge is having issues. I had to try a couple times to check in the changes.

Just try again.

Thanks. It's been happening for the past week but I'll try again at some point. I was able to get the update yesterday (I wasn't at the library for a change) but I think I saw there was another update to get.

Added a fix for "Delayed Start" to line scores. There are some game statuses I didn't have handling for because I wasn't sure what data would be available. As these less common statuses pop up, I will fix these too.

I think Sourceforge may be having growing pains with their new system they switched over to earlier this year. Just keep trying. And yes, I'm updating pretty frequently as I seem to be inspired this year and adding or improving features almost nightly.

Speaking of inspired and new features, I have the library code (network backend) for master scoreboard view (two line view of all game scores) finished and about 60% of the GUI code. I may end up sneaking it into the sf-2 release before the weekend.

Last night the display on my laptop died, and with it went my ability to run Linux and mlbviewer. I'll definitely be letting people know about this app, and if at some point in the furture I'm able to replace my laptop I'll definitely make sure mlbviewer gets reinstalled.

Thanks for all the hard work you've done to get this software running for Linux users. You guys definitely rock, and may the Great Penguin always smile down upone you.

That's too bad. Especially because I'm almost ready to check in master scoreboard view.

Have you looked on ebay for a replacement laptop? I don't know what you're replacing or your budget, but you can get a competent laptop (Thinkpad T41) for about $75, or better than that, a Thinkpad x61 (non-tablet version) for less than $200. I'm a big fan of buying used Thinkpads because I think the design is tops (no extra and ugly bulk like Dell and HP) and the x-series comes in very nice in the weight department.

Hope you're back in business soon.

Unfortunately due to a bad back and a pair of bum knees there's no room in the budget for replacing my laptop. I had gotten it from a friend who passed it along from his comany's pile of laptops to be discarded and the pile is long gone. I have a friend keepng his eyes open for me but he hasn't seen anyhing in a while so I'm basically offline until further notice.

I'm shutting down a lot of what I've been doing simply because I don't know when I'll get back to it but I'm leaving my site up so folks will be able to see my latest article on mlbviewer for a good while.

Sorry to hear it. Take care of yourself and hopefully something will come along soon.

If you like the line score feature, you just may love the master scoreboard view coming soon (maybe later today.) The only thing I haven't figured out is how to implement left, right, and jump to date in master scoreboard view. But if you don't mind having the date functions (left, right, jump) anchored to listings screen, then you can do everything else from master scoreboard view including expanding to line score, opening highlights, playing audio/video/condensed game, etc.

I think I'll probably check that in soon (I want to see Final, In Progress, and Preview all in the same display first to make sure I'm handling the the three main cases correctly) as it is and work out the date navigation later.

SVN revision 419: Master scoreboard view

Master scoreboard view is two lines per game that combines listings and line scores. It is opened by the 'm' key and use the 'm' key to refresh it. If you want to remap the key, the action name is MASTER_SCOREBOARD (see the README file for more details on how to change the keybindings.)

An In Progress game might look something like this (this data is falsified here to prevent giving anything away about today's game):

Code:
Bottom 3      BAL   0  2  0  P: Tillman; 0-1, 0 outs
              BOS   0  1  0  B: Ellsbury; OD: Victorino; Bases: 1B and 3B
P:, B:, OD: are current pitcher, current batter, and on-deck. The P:, count, and outs as well as the B:, OD:, and Bases: follow the correct team and half inning. So if it were top of the inning, the B:, OD:, Bases: line would be on top indicating that BAL is at bat.

To get everything in two lines, I had to remove HR, the names of the runners, and the last play. These are still available in line score which can be opened from the master scoreboard view.

Completed game might look like this:

Code:
Final         MIN   4  8  0  LP: Pelfrey (1-1 7.36)
               KC   7 13  1  WP: Guthrie (2-0 3.55); SV: Holland, G (2)
and a game not yet started will look like this:

Code:
Pre-Game      OAK   0  0  0  AP: Griffin (1-0 3.00)
07:05 PM      ANA   0  0  0  HP: Vargas (0-0 1.59)
Where AP: and HP: are Away Probable pitcher and Home Probable pitcher.

In master scoreboard view, you get all the listings in one scrollable screen.

Master scoreboard view is intended to compliment, and almost but not entirely replace the listings screen. (Listings screen will always remain the default screen to prevent spoilers.) You can use the left, right, and jump to see the master scoreboard of other dates. You can play video, audio, and condensed from master scoreboard. You can open up the line score, the media debug, and highlights screens from master scoreboard. You can even change nexdef, speed, and coverage settings.

The one area that is missing is the media indicator. I don't actually share listings data with the master scoreboard object (yet) so it doesn't know whether there is a condensed game available, if the game has been archived, blackout rules, or if there is no audio/no video/no media. I will fix this soon, but I wanted to get something out to you guys to get some testing time on it and to have someone else enjoying the feature too.

As always, when reporting any crash, please tell me the date and the game.

Enjoy!

Second sourceforge release is live

Went ahead and uploaded the second sourceforge release and a couple new screenshots of line score and master scoreboard view. I am really enjoying both of those features. I also fixed a bug where it would crash navigating to jump to innings view from line score or master scoreboard. Now all complimentary navigations and features should work well together including playing media (audio/video/condensed), opening highlights, and jumping to innings from either line score or master scoreboard.
