Sounds like most of Adobe's stuff to me: "as far as X goes, not a great one".

Interestingly enough, if you set max_bps=1200000 or one of the settings lower than that (800000 is one too) it appears to work fine. Not really helpful since 1200000 is a speed available through standard service, but interesting nonetheless, I wonder what it means.

I have subscribed to the basic MLB.TV service (not premium) for the business part of the season, and mlbviewer works well for me at 1200, 800 and 500 kb/s (I have not tried faster), with both live feeds and with archived games if I watch the archive from the beginning. I have rtmpdump-2.3 and PyXML-0.8.4 installed. As I am not a premium subscriber I do not have autobahn.jar installed.

However if I try to start at a particular inning by pressing 'I' and then T or B + number, the archive starts at the beginning of the chosen inning/half-inning but video plays at approximately half speed. Audio plays at normal speed so they quickly get out of sync. The download begins with a report "Starting download at -0.001KB/s" which seems to show some kind of error, but the messages then occur too fast to be noted down and do not appear to be logged. Apart from the fact that the video is at approximately half speed, the pictures are fine.

Is there anything I can do to help debug this?

If you want, tou should be able to get 1800k with live games. All archived games I have looked at for some time offer only up to 1200k though.

Huh. I just tried this out with rtmpdump 2.3 as well and it also doesn't work for me. I had been using flvstreamer (based on version 2.1c) before I compiled rtmpdump 2.3, and that worked. A quick test of the different releases of rtmpdump reveals that for 2.2d and later, the output from rtmpdump is broken when you use the jump to inning feature. Good find!

Try downloading rtmpdump 2.2c (or earlier) and using it instead. Meanwhile, I'll drop by the rtmpdump mailing list and report this to see if they know what's going on. Hopefully it's an easy fix for them, since it is a regression and we've locked down what version it is in.

It works fine now with rtmpdump-2.2c, thanks. I have to say, mlbviewer is a nice piece of work.

On further investigation, the incorrect video playback speed when using jump-to-inning on an archive looks as if it might well be a bug with mplayer rather than with rtmpdump.

If I use vlc with rtmpdump-2.3, jump-to-inning works fine. Except at 500kb/s, vlc also produces better picture quality, so I think I will probably stay with that. At 500kb/s there is not much in it between vlc and mplayer.

Does anybody else have the following problem with the following game (NON-NEXDEF, although nexdef-branch)?
8/17/2010: Detroit Tigers @ New York Yankees
Exception: Requested Media Available Yet. (I'm guessing it's missing the "not".)

The MLB.TV flash player seems to play it fine. Also, other games from yesterday seem to work normally with mlbviewer.

Thanks for any information!

I can't tell you why the Flash player has it, but from the place in the code, that's a response coming back from the server saying the "Requested Media Not Available Yet." Yes, I was missing the "Not". This will happen if you try to request a completed game before the archive is available. It could be that the Flash player is using nexdef to get the game because nexdef users can stream game from the start from the moment it ends.

In other words, if you get one of these, just wait it out or watch another game. I'll look into the "(Archived)" code to see if there's a way I can hold off on that until it really is available to all users.

Oh, and I committed the typo fix if you want it. That's the only thing that went into Rev 266 so I'm not making a formal announcement.

Thanks for the information daftcat! Yeah it's really weird that the flash player has it...I don't even have NexDef installed.
I hate it when MLB fucks up and I have to resort to the condensed game ;-).
Thanks again!

Why use UNIX/LINUX if you are going to just screw it up with Micro$oft garbage? [MODERATED]

Don't forget to donate

Season is coming to a quick conclusion and once again StrayCat (aka as daftcat) has been available to fix the glitches in a timely manner. Send him a few bucks for the service if you can afford to. Doesn't have to be much, enough for a few beers or whatever... if for no other reason to encourage him to be around for next year.

His paypal account is straycat000(at)yahoo(dot)com.

I was merely stating that UNIX/LINUX is just that and not M$. I do believe it is unfair that they make it where you must use their product in order to utilize a non M$ paid subscription. I do not believe that using WINE to weaken your system is the answer.

This thread isn't about using WINE. Mlbviewer is a UNIX/Linux native solution to work around what is really Adobe's (not Microsoft's) shortcomings.
