@linux_option:

I got a similar error message when trying to connect to a live stream in a blacked out geographical area (i.e. an area where one of the teams is televised locally). Try a non-local game and see if live games work for you.

latest svn from mplayer, rtmpdump, and mlbviewer. all python tools installed as well with easy_install. This is on Fedora 12.

yup, piniella boggled that one, can't understand the chad tracy decision with soto available off the bench...

i mean, tracy has done nothing to show that he should be the guy in the spot. soto has at least had a few big hits in situations like that.

hi there,

using the -dumpstream option for archived games. as discussed here, the stream downloads to about 43 per cent and stops, goes back to the mlbviewer main screen.

what do i have to do so that dumpstream waits until i can download/stream further and completes the file?

this is my video player option:

Quote:
video_player=mplayer -cache 2048 -dumpstream %s -dumpfile %f
thanks a bunch,
markus

Same here after 51%. Mayby a problem with the different ping type?

Has anyone been able to get the latest nexdef jars from mlb.tv/nexdef-jars to work under Linux just with the browser and flash yet? I can't seem to get the stream to use nexdef. It detects, that I have it installed and running b/c I have the option to "Click here to retry Nexdef", but when it tries to start the stream, it freezes, then just drops back to not using nexdef.

I'm going to say it again. -dumpstream is not an option I'm supporting. MLBTV is a streaming service and without -dumpstream, mlbviewer can and frequently does stream to the end of a game. Thus far, either the business team doesn't know about us or they have chosen to look the other way. Since they sell individual games for download separate from the streaming service, this could be viewed as a loss of business to support game downloads with -dumpstream.

In other words, mlbviewer is meant to replicate the service you paid for, not provide services you haven't paid for.

Therefore, I will put no support effort into getting -dumpstream to work as it could present a risk to the entire project.

SVN revision 234: Robust speed switching

With this revision, you can use the 'p' key to switch between all the standard definition stream speeds:
  • 128K
  • 500K
  • 800K
  • 1200K
  • 1800K

Also note, that before this revision, I had modeled 1200K as speed=800 in the code. So when you update to this revision, check your config file and set the preferred speed setting (without the 'K'.) Default for fresh installs (or a missing speed= option) will be 1200K.

Finally, if you're a premium subscriber, speed switching should work across both home and away streams.

Nexdef support still under investigation, but the 1800K stream is pretty.

Yeah, I haven't had much luck with this yet either. Later today or tomorrow I plan to try the jar on my windows machine (kill the official nexdef plugin process) where I have actually seen nexdef work this year.

Thanks daftcat!

The 1800k stream does look great. This should definitely tide me over until nexdef is working.

can someone take a look at this log from the output of soapevent.py?

Thank you so much for adding support for the full range of speed streams! The lower bandwidths may not be pretty, but they allow me to follow the game even if my special lady is surfing the web too, thereby preserving domestic bliss in the Pine household.

Okay, that's very helpful...to me anyway.

According to the blackoutStatus, your location cannot be determined. You can try adding an address or zip code to your mlb.com profile. That might help.

Are you able to watch games using the flash player? I'm hoping the answer here is no. Because if that's the case, then it will be far easier to get support from mlbtv tech support than explaining mlbviewer to them. You might just want to lie and tell them you can't get past the "Verifying Location" step in the flash player just to see what tips they might have.

I'm getting a similar output from soapevent.py, but I'm trying to "watch" an archived game. I guess I would normally be blacked out, (PHI @ HOU) and I'm in Austin.

The media center page says that in market games are available 90 minutes after the game ends, so I suspect if I wait I'll be able to get it then.. at least it's the weekend so I won't mind staying up to watch the game.

(I had my dvr set to record the game, but the recording got corrupted and wouldn't play.. #$^%)!

EDIT: Downloading now, about 90 minutes later, so.. apparently a blacked out game stays blacked out for 90 minutes after it ends.

so boxee uses flash, but does it use nexdef? i tried it out out of curiosity, and saw two stream options (low and high quality). i have no idea what bitrate streams these correspond to. also, i didn't see the nexdef plugin active, so i am assuming that it does not use the plugin. however, this is odd considering it sounds like they are advertising the nexdef features on their blog post.

i know this is off topic, but i am just curious...

since nexdef isn't available (yet!), i am trying to build rtmpdump for macos x 10.5.

when i try to build, i get the following error:

i think the issue is the version of openssl that i am running (0.9.71). if this is in fact the case, is there a way to update it without causing a problem for my os? i know in standard linux i could just update the package, but i don't know how to do this in macosx.

any ideas?
