I'm on the phone with mlb.com just as I'm reading your messages. I hardly call all the logins from valid subscribers an attack. But if I can get in touch with a supervisor and get our accounts reinstated, I would be happy to re-engineer the login process to comply with mlb.com's preferences.
Anyway, until I can actually speak with someone from mlb.com, please let's not stir up any trouble with antagonistic language like war and definitely don't post anything on mlb.tv support forums about account deactivation and attacks. Let me try to handle this and get mlbviewer into compliance with mlb.com's expectations.
In the past, we've tried to fly under the radar but the addition of third-party clients like Boxee and Roku shows they are not unreasonable to third-party applications.
In the meantime, I encourage others to use the web player until this matter is resolved. I don't want all of you to have to talk with mlb.com support supervisors to get your accounts reinstated.
It seems a couple of us have had our accounts deactivated for what mlb.com deems excessive or inappropriate use ("attack" is the word one support engineer had used.)
I am currently waiting for a supervisor to return my call to discuss my own account and the circumstances surrounding its deactivation.
In the meantime, I don't want all of you to have to go through this.
Please discontinue use of mlbviewer until I have resolved this with MLB.TV.
Since the introduction of third-party clients like Boxee and Roku has demonstrated that they are at least open to the idea of third-party clients, I will be discussing the options mlbviewer has to come into compliance with MLB.TV's expectations for reasonable use. In other words, "what do I have to do to make them happy?"
I will update you when I learn more myself.
In the meantime, I also ask that you refrain from posting about this to public forums such as and especially the Official MLB.TV Support Forum. I would like to keep relations between MLB.TV and mlbviewer users on good terms. Posts to public forums (including this one) may be misconstrued and may become counterproductive to our effort.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding.

I've been using mlbviewer all morning without any login problems. I did notice yesterday that I couldn't login via the web page though.

Use at your risk until I have the complete story and our options. I don't want to be responsible for having anyone else's account deactivated especially because ToS violations (if this is one) do not come with refunds.

You are making all kind of assumptions as to why your account was screwed with. You're forgetting how totally incompetent they are.
I'd suggest you go in screaming as to why they messed up ... telling them nothing else.
That messed-up mplayer is the problem. I have no idea why it's still hanging around your system. One thing you can try is recompiling mplayer from svn and making sure you have all the output drivers compiled in. The method I used for doing this is here. Be sure to follow it exactly. Before you start, do 'sudo apt-get --purge remove mplayer'
We're good now, except for audio. So, I'll page back and see what I can do about that.
Thanks for all the help -- again!
Thats two consecutive years you've pulled me through.
