many questions !!
I am a newbie, so have lot of questions really! Here we go:
1) I have dual boot, XP and Fedora-2. They are working fine but in fedora I can see windows network but when I double click it does not show anything. By the way I have three partition under XP one NTFS and two VFat and one Vfat was made through Fedora Disk.
2) I have autocad files in fd0 which are being recognised by fedora, however, it can not open the files as no associtated application is available. How do I open and work on these files ?
3) For update purpose, I brought only the harddisk to my workplace, as I have dialup at my home and Broadband at workplace. Surprisingly even after identifying the disk the fedora failed with following message:
audit(1144407762.908;0): initialised
hda : Invalid Geomatry : 255 physical Heads ?
ide-default : hda failed to register the drive with ide.c
Kernel Panic : ide default attach failed
is there something wrong with the disk? By the way, at the time of installation, I specifically metioned the hda=Cylinders,Heads,Sectors at boot promt as well as at kernel parameter.
May be some of the above questions stupid, but as I have already confessed I am newbie with very elementary knowledge of linux system working.
waiting for my proverbial white knight ........
--------------------------------------------------------------
2nd part sequel to question 3) above after further experimentation.
I did some further experiment and change ide cable i.e. earlier I simply opened the cable from the existing primary master and connecting the fedora disk to the secondary cable (u know IBM machine with two slots red and yellow on the motherboard). Now I directly opened the powe and ide cable from the master and conneced it to the fedora harddisk. now it started decompressing linux. Welcome to Fedora ... etc. But when it came to file system checking this is the scenerio..
fsck.ext3disk write protected : use -n options to do a read only check of the Device
Read Only file system while trying to open /dev/hda9 [FAILED]
An error occured during file system check
Dropping u to a shell, the system will reboot when you leave
the shell.
Give root password for maintenance(or type Ctrl+d to continue)
(Repair file system) 1 #
------------------
now what the heck is all this ? what am I supposed to do ? I have a feeling that since excepting the harddisk itself on which fedora is residing, everything it is finding has changed from what it has in record (i.e. my home pc's configuration) but why filesystem ? is'nt it in the same harddisk (because I don't have a 2nd HD in my home pc)? confusion, confustion..
