making links for non root????

Im trying to create a link for my non-root account, but its always greyed out... i have tried the system tools = > authenication, to log type in my root password to get access to this, no luck,,, tried turning on terminal and typing SU and then the password,,, still greyed out?... how do i do this, anyone know?.... (GNOME 2.6, fedora 2)... thanks
