Listing all storage device

What command could I execute in order to return a listing of all connected mass storage devices?

I understand that the file "/etc/fstab" only provide a listing of configured devices and not new devices, am I correct?

cat /proc/mounts
cat /etc/mtab
(but you'll have to check devices)
you can also look at /sys/block for entries with bus leading inside usb tree. Or you can parse dmesg output.
