Unhappy Linux installation

Hi,
I have just installed FC6 on my Dell latitude laptop. The installation went fine. On the first boot, I get a localhost login command. When I login as root, I just get a shell command. how do I start the Gui interface/display environment (Gnome)?

Thanks,
AJ

To get your GUI, type "startx" without the quotes. I would strongly recomend you create a user account as playing in the GUI enviroment as root is not sexy.

Moved: This thread is more suitable in the Fedora Forum and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.

To start the gui automatically at boot time, edit /etc/inittab and change the default runlevel from 3 to 5. e.g. change
Code:
id:3:initdefault:
to
Code:
id:5:initdefault:
