where do i find the latest codecs for playing wmv flies.
Can't get Mplayer or xine to play a *.wmv file.
I do have some codecs in /usr/lib/codecs and /usr/lib/win32
Check at http://mplayerhq.hu. You need to download the essential codec pack, extract the tarball and copy the contents to /usr/lib/codecs or /usr/lib/win32. Also make sure you apps know where to find the codecs.

In order for mplayerplug-in to work correctly, you will have to adjust a few things. When you get to a website that loads mplayerplug-in, do a right click and chose configure. Then, select a video driver under the video section. The X11 driver will do just fine. Then select alsa for the audio driver. That is pretty much it. Make sure to re-start firefox for that to work.
