kpovmodeler that came w/ FC2 freezes system

Howdy.

OK, I've been grappling with this for a little while now, Googling, searching forums and so forth, but can't find anything like it.

When I go to start up the KPoVModeler that came with FC2, a start window appears on the panel, the GUI appears, but as soon as it seems to be loaded and ready to go, it immediatly freezes the whole system. No action from the keyboard or mouse, the update exclamation point pulsing on the right side of the panel freezes, Ctrl-Alt-Backspace does nothing.

Just for kicks, I've tried starting it from the launcher, the command line, as well as in KDE and Gnome, as user and as root, all with the same result.

EDIT:
When I try to start it from the command line, I get this output:

DCOP Client:: attachInternal. Attach failed Could not open network socket
QPixmap: Cannot create a QPixmap when no GUI is being used
QPixmap: Cannot create a QPixmap when no GUI is being used
QPixmap: Cannot create a QPixmap when no GUI is being used
QPixmap: Cannot create a QPixmap when no GUI is being used
kbuildsycoca running...

At this point the GUI appears, then the system freezes.

I thought Linux wasn't supposed to act like this, so I'm still willing to believe I'm doing something wrong (but since this came with the FC2 installation, I'm only left to thinking that maybe I'm clicking the mouse too hard...I'm not given a chance to muck anything up, as all I'm doing is just trying to start it).

Anybody have any ideas? heard of anything like this with any other apps?

Thanks in advance,
Michael
