Kernel Module saa7127 (PVR 350)

I am working on building a MythTV box based on the guide from Jarod Wilson. I don't know if many people here have tried it, but thus far it has been frustrating.

Currently I am at a point where I should loading a kernel module and I get the following:

/sbin/insmod saa7127 enable_output=1 output_select=0 test_image=1
insmod: can't read 'saa7127': No such file or directory# ivtv modules setup
alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 ivtv
options ivtv ivtv_debug=1 tuner=2
options saa7127 enable_output=1 output_select=0
install ivtv /sbin/modprobe msp3400 saa7115 tuner v4l1-compat; /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install ivtv; /sbin/modprobe ivtv-fb
options msp3400 once=0 simpler=1 simple=0
#test
alias eth0 via-rhine
alias snd-card-0 snd-via82xx
install snd-via82xx /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-via82xx && /usr/sbin/alsactl restore >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
remove snd-via82xx { /usr/sbin/alsactl store >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-via82xx
alias usb-controller ehci-hcd
alias usb-controller1 uhci-hcd
# nvidia kernel module
alias char-major-195 nvidia-1_0-6111

everything else in the howto works up until I need to
load the module.

I also tried to locate the module and found it in
/lib/modules/2.6.8-1.521/updates/drivers/media/video/saa7127.ko
I thought maybe linking it to where the rest of the module are woudl help (/lib/modules/2.6.8-1.521/updates/drivers/media/video/saa7127.ko) ...no dice.

any suggestions?

Hey!

I am in a hurry so I'll be brief.
1) Di you install the firmware drivers (extracted from the windows driver) in /lib/modules/ PRIOR to compiling the modules ??
2) I realized that in my install script, the modules are copied to the wrong directory (in fact it created a new /lib/modules/xy with a truncated version of my kernels name. Ensure that the are all copied to /lib/modules/your-kernel-tree/extras/
3) Create the alias stuff and ensure that the modules dependencies are updated to the system (in debian depmod -ae) after

Good luck!

[root@localhost root]# rpm -qa | grep ivtv
kernel-module-ivtv-2.6.8-1.521-0.1.10-45_pre2_ck108k.rhfc2.at
perl-Video-ivtv-0.12-5.1.rhfc2.at
ivtv-firmware-2.02.023-3.at
ivtv-0.1.10-45_pre2_ck108k.rhfc2.at

I have tried depmod -ae too.

I didn't see anything on the howto about installing the windows drivers. Could that be my downfall?

First of all, I forgot to ask where from you took your ivtv-Sources. As you are apparently using kernel 2.6.8.1 you should use the latest from here:
and NOT the originals from ivtv.sourceforge.net (they are made for 2.4.x) http://67.18.1.101/~ckennedy/ivtv/
Choose the file
ivtv-0.1.10-pre2-ck110a.tgz (or later. This is the latest as of this writting)
Unpack it. Then go to the utils folder and "make" and "make install" these.
Read the README and follow the instructions to get the binaries. YOu may have to change the path to the file for extraction.
THEN you can start to compile the driver.
Rest see above

Good luck!
