Unhappy Kernel can not boot after upgrade on Fedora OS 15.

Hello, everyone.

I am using Fedora 15, and want to upgrade to version 16. I follow the official link http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Upgrad...g_yum_directly to upgrade my OS by the following command:

Code:
yum update kernel* --releasever=16

yum groupupdate Base --releasever=16
reboot

After reboot, OS can not start, and just print the following message on screen
Code:
could not start boot splash: No such file or directory
, and screen does not print other type of message.

I have installed many software on my previous OS, and I don't want to format my system partition. How to bring fedora back to life without reinstall OS ? Reinstall OS means I have to install many software and do much configuration. It's a waste of time.

Have you tried using a previous kernel? Also, have you tried booting into single user mode?

You did read the bit at the top - in yellow, with an exclamation mark ?.
I would interpret that as: "if it breaks, you get to keep all the pieces".

Until recently I never bothered with upgrades, always doing clean installs, but tried pre-upgrade last time on one machine. Seemed to work o.k.
There are instructions in the install guide on how to obtain a list of installed products, and how to re-install them after the new version is installed.

How about single user mode? I ask because it might be plymouth that is throwing the error.

I can't boot into rescue mode whether I append "linux rescue" or "single" to my kernel parameter, and the phenomena is the same!
