Can anyone tell me how well KDE runs on Fedora 4? I am possibly going to switch to it from Suse 9.2 but I am very used to using KDE and I am unsure about using Gnome, it would be good to have the option for either but I heard that Gnome was the default, has KDE not been optimised so well for it? Or do they both run well?
Originally posted by PTrenholme It work quite well, witl no problems of which I'm aware. And it's in the Fedora DVD, so there's no (additional) download problem.
Cool Do you think Gnome runs better? I have never really used Gnome but I would like to give it a go.
the only thing I ever had problems with is that the automatik istallation (with rpm-packager) only works with gnome. Other than that I am using KDE all the time with no problems

You know if there is a dial-up internet program in Gnome? I use kinternet just now in KDE but I cant find a simmilar dial-up program for Gnome.
There is the KPPP dialer that comes with KDE 3.4 but i think it can be found in Gnome 2.10 to or the Network Device Control which can be found in both.
My personal favorite desktop environment is XFCE (based on Gnome so I've heard) because it starts up much faster and it exits pretty fast to and above all I like how it looks to (just a preference of mine)
Hi,
I'm really satisfied by KDE under FC4. However, pay attention (when installing Fedora) to load and install all related components, since RedHat stresses not on KDE but on GNOME!. In my opinion, KDE is much better than GNOME.
Good Luck!
You will find the installation a breeze. Anaconda is the installer. Very nice. If you have the disc space, I suggest doing an "everything" install. That way you are sure to have all pkgs including the devel pkgs if you choose to compile software.
KDE works as great in FC4 as SuSE 9.3. Really nice distribution. Very important to run "yum update" immediately after the install. Several patches/updates to be done. And, this link is very helpful as well:
im running fc4 it installed with gnome by default but i added kde cause i like it better. gnome is set up where ur accessories adn stuff are along the top of screen. and kde is more like a windows set up. i enjoy kde alot better but when a page is open like the prefferences for the bar at bottom i cant hit apply cause the tool bar is blocking it i tried moving it and everything.
ty w6bi i didnt know ctrl alt delete wortked like that.
whatever you do dont delete the task manager from the list i did by mistake and everytime i lowered something i could never find it again
