Just want to tell you how great Fedora is!

Hi,
Before I changed to Fedora Core 2 I was using Mandrake 9.2
I really got impressed as soon as I installed the 4 CDs!!!
I use a Notebook and my USB-Optical-Wirelles Mouse that works over a Receiver works without any special configuration! The touchpad works too!!!
Then I connected my PPPoE Network that I couldnīt make in Slackware 10 and with some problems in Mandrake 9.2! In Fedora I just clicked the Wizard for Network-Configuration that did everything!!!
Then, online, I updated my system to the newest kernel and other programs! That wasnīt possible in Mandrake that fast!
I was also impressed because its much faster! I donīt know if it is the Kernel 2.6 or just Fedora....
The Login-Screen is really cool too!
I just got a little bit sad with the KDE 3.2, shure its greater than 3.1 in Mandrake but the Screenshots I saw where much nicer! Mmmm...but its great anyway!
Iīm just surprised how fast Linux is improving! Iīm sure Mandrake 10 would impress me too but I choosed Fedora...hehe ....Sure every Distribution has some skills but Fedora is really great! Lets see what will happen in the next versions of distros...
Iīm just so impressed!
I will try to install my WLAN now, thats one thing that still has to be improved.
But Micro$oft has to watch out! The revolution has just began

I don't agree with you, Fedora does have more hardware support, but you can not say Fedora is great since it got more hardware support.
My idea on Fedora is "IT IS NOT MORE THAN A BETA VERSION OF REDHAT LINUX", there just experimenting thier new packages via Fedora.
If you want a real Linux distro, more efficient & fast than Fedora & the rest, you should try Gentoo (www.gentoo.org).

I now its a little bit generall what I said, but comparing with my old distro Mandrake 9.2 I really have to say its better. Sure Redhat tries to use it as a experiment to make their non-free products better but its great anyway, I think.
Now, 2 days after using it, I noticed that it still has a lot of errors! A lot! Many things donīt work or work veeery slow. For example Tux Racer doesnīt work with my ATI Radeon 9700 but with a old 9000 it works perfect...
So you say Gentoo is faster? I already read a little on gentoo.org and as I saw it has 2 CDs, right? I think I should try it once. I also saw the benchmarkin ver. Mandrake 9.1 and its really impresing! Just sad that there is no Gentoo-Forum in LQ!
So please tell me sencerily wich distro is the fastest.
Thanks,
fedivh

Gentoo is said to be the fastest Linux distro. And It is the fastest:-)

For installing Gentoo with out connecting to network you'll need 2 (may be 3 CD, It depends on your architecture & installation type).
Since you have Athlon-XP processor, you'll probably need 3 CDs

1. Gentoo x86 Live CD 2004.2 (Universal or Minimum)
2. Gentoo Stage (1 or 2 or 3) for Athlon-XP (because 2004.2 Universal Live CD does not have any Stages for Athlon-XP.)
3. Gentoo Package CD for Athlon-XP (Available as a bit-torrents)

Remember Gentoo can be optimized for a certain architecture.
I strongly recomend you to read the Gentoo Installation Handbook (http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/index.xml) before installing, Better if you can keep a copy of it with you.

Gentoo Installation is complicated process than Fedora & Mandrake.
LQ does not have a forum for Gentoo, because Gentoo has an Official Forum at http://forums.gentoo.org/
It is one of the best forums in Linux Zone.

IMPORTANT:
* Follow the Gentoo Installation Hand Book & other Gentoo Guides for a trouble free installation.
* Clear all doubts before Start Installing. You can always ask for help form Gentoo Forum, Gentoo Mailing List & LQ Of-cause. (Check www.gentoo.org for more info.)

Regards,
kesara
