jre blips out Firefox

ok. i searched and read out all the OMG's on "java firefox" that came up on the fedora forum search engine. no dice. it either blips the screen, freezes the Term app, or just is a waste of a mouse click.
i have core 3, updated 2 hours ago, and tried jdsk, j2re 1_5, 1_4_2 -06, and loaded in an old cd with j2re 1_4_2-03.
i click the firefox icon it now (hallelujah) loads up. when i go to www. goes.noaa.gov and click a java link, BLINK. no firefox.
now what?
i'm ready to go back to SuSE, if it weren't for the really awesome speed and (surprisingly) stableness of this breed of OS. even if this is a devel thrashnhash distro.
HELP!

I am using the jre1.5.0_01 that I downloaded and installed fairly recently with only a few problems. I used the rpm version and sort of followed the instructions at http://java.com/en/download/help/5000010500.xml . To link Firefox to the jre I eventually cd'ed into /home/xxxxxxx/.mozilla/plugins to do the ln -s /usr/java/jre1.5.0/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so . xxxxxxx is of course my user name. All went well after that. The instructions just have a directory that is different from the Firefox install.

I don't know about your problem. On mine I flailed about a bit figuring it out. I just moved to trash the jre related links in the .mozilla directory as I created ones that did not work. Eventually I got it right. Also if you're using the GUI and file browser you will not see the .mozilla directory unless you tell it to show hidden files, which is in the views drop down menu.

Hope this helps, too many things need that jre.
