Hi guys

With open source drivers, yes. The closed source catalyst drivers don't yet support Xserver 1.7.*. However, the open source drivers will provide 3D acceleration if you install the mesa-dri-drivers-experimental package.

Hi, I've got HP Probook 4710s with exactly the same graphics model and I can't get it working properly. I'm using Debian Squeeze, I have the libgl1-mesa-dri package installed, but the direct rendering does not work.

Here is my xorg.conf: http://wklej.org/id/271135/
Xorg.0.log: http://wklej.org/id/271134/
glxinfo: http://wklej.org/id/271249/
and glxgears: http://wklej.org/id/271289/

Can someone tell me what is wrong? Thanks in advance :)

@Hwiparam
Were you able to sort out the display card issue? Did you try using the radeonhd driver instead of radeon? I am planning to buy a Dell Inspiron 15 with the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330. If you have had any luck with your laptop, please do tell.

Thanks!

@adamk75
I believe you are correct, but I am not entirely sure. Please take a look here:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/dri...d/plain/README

It says Mobility Radeon HD 4330 support is EXPERIMENTAL. Now, what exactly would that mean? Would 3D be available? I am not sure I know where to look for an answer. Any pointers will be appreciated!

Yes, 3D is available in the open source drivers. In F12, all you have to do is install mesa-dri-drivers-experimental package. Mind you, a lot has changed with the open source drivers since F12 was released, so even those aren't the latest and greatest version.

As for Debian Lenny. I know very little about Debian, and it's versioning, so I have no idea if Mesa 7.6.1 or newer is available.

I tried both radeon and radeonhd drivers and both did not work for me. Now i'm using the vesa driver and it is probably the only one which works quite well with my card. That means I'm able to work normally in 2D, but I had to forget about 3D. I could not find any better solution for my problem.

@Adam, @Hwiparam
Thanks for the replies!

@Hwiparam
Sorry that your card is not yet fully supported. However, I do find that strange because the radeonhd driver documentation says there is support for the card (M92 Series) albeit experimental. From the xorg.conf you have posted here, I gather you were using the radeon driver. When you say you tried both radeon and radeonhd, did you try changing radeon to radeonhd in your xorg.conf? It would be insufficient just to have the drivers installed. I am guessing you've already done this, maybe even several times. Perhaps in a few days, radeonhd will fully support the 4330...

At any rate, I decided to go with the default Intel GMA X4500HD that ships with the Inspiron 15 these days.

Yes, I changed my xorg.conf :) It also looks strange to me - I have read that my card should be supported but I couldn't get it working anyway. Now I'm using the default ''vesa'' driver.

I am happy to announce that this morning I solved all problems with my Radeon card. The only thing I had to do was to update the kernel to newer version (2.6.32-3). Now I'm using the ''radeon'' driver and it works much better than vesa.
Thanks.

I met the same problem. Thanks for sharing, I'll try it.
