Intermittent Printing Problems

Hi there --

I have an HP 5550dtn attached to our network and am trying to configure our Fedora Core 2 workstations to print to it.

The printer has a static ip address assigned to it and its JetDirect card is configured to run at 100 Mbps.

I have gone to the linux workstations and as root have invoked the setup utility to configure the connection to the printer. I have provided a queue name and selected jet direct as the network connection method. I then entered the ip address of the printer and kept the port number at the default 9100. When it came time for the driver selection, I chose HP, scrolled down to the Color LaserJet 5550 entry, and then picked the postscript driver associated with the printer.

When I do a test page to the printer, there are intermittent problems occurring: Sometimes the jobs get printed, othertimes they do not get through. Also, another workstation was initially able to print, but for some reason cannot print. If I reboot the printer, that sometimes helps with the jobs that were stuck in the queue, but that does not completely resolve the issue. For example, a workstation that was rebooted can at one time print, but if a subsequent job is sent to the printer, the job does not get done.

Has anyone got ideas on what is wrong, and what I need to do? Thanks.
