Code:

cd ~/.fluxbox/themes
tar xzf /path/to/theme

Figuring stuff out is a lot more fun when it's pretty basic stuff. Double posting's against the rules.

From the other thread, if it's a bz2, you need 'xjf' instead of 'xzf'.

That is where mine is. I'm not sure how much of this needs saying, so I'll just say all of it. :) The tilde (~) indicates your home directory and the dot directory (.fluxbox) means it's hidden. You need to issue 'ls -al' to see it, but you can cd to it. If it really isn't there, you can make it. My system flux directory is in /usr/local/share/fluxbox/ but yours may be in /usr/share/fluxbox or somewhere else. You can copy that to your home directory, but it should have been generated when you first executed fluxbox.

And you can find your own threads by clicking on your control panel button. :)

[botamis@dhcppc14 botamis]$ cd /usr/local/share/fluxbox/styles
[botamis@dhcppc14 styles]$ tar -xjf /home/botamis/downloads/rj_daft.tar.bz2
tar: backgrounds/nd.jpg: Cannot open: File exists
tar: style/daft: Cannot open: File exists
tar: style/README: Cannot open: File exists
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
[botamis@dhcppc14 styles]$ su root
Password:
[root@dhcppc14 styles]# tar -xjf /home/botamis/downloads/rj_daft.tar.bz2
[root@dhcppc14 styles]#

Thats what i tried... >.<

how do i know it worked?

slakmagik 03-18-2004 09:03 PM

'ls'

If you see 'rj_daft' in there (or something like) it worked.

Or just look at your flux menu. If you see it listed in there, it all worked. (Possibly have to restart flux, though - I can't remember if the whole menu auto-updates or not. I think it does.)

As far as why attempt #1 didn't, tar's error messages never make any sense. Probably what it was complaining about was that you need to be root to write to /usr/local. (It definitely should have been anyway.) So you have to 'su' first. If you untar it in ~/.fluxbox/styles, where you do have write permission, you don't need to su. (And to su, you can just do 'su' - it's assumed to be root unless you specify otherwise.)
