Installing sg3_utils

I'm trying to install sg3_utils. I have downloaded sg3_utils-1.28-1.i386.rpm but when I run it I get "libsgutils2.so.2 is needed". So I downloaded the companion file which is called sg3_utils-libs-1.28-1.i386.rpm" but when I run that it says "rpmlib(FileDigests) <= 4.6.0-1 is needed". But when I search the web for that I can't find it.

Does anyone know where to get that?

Since this is the introductions forum, where one generally introduces themselves, I am going to request that your thread be moved to a better location. For me to do that, please tell us what Linux OS you are using, and what version.

Meanwhile, please explain what you mean when you say "you try to run" the RPM file? An RPM is meant to be installed, not actually ran.

Thanks, I didn't know this was a special introduction forum. I'm using Fedora 8. By run I mean "rpm -iv sg3_utils-1.28-1.i386.rpm".

Ok cool, well since Fedora 8 is rather older than the latest version (11 or 12) and the error message is telling you that you need an OLDER version of that companion package, I suggest either getting a newer Fedora, or searching for an older version of the sg3 Fedora package compatible with version 8; probably the former is the better idea, unless there's a pressing need for you to be running that older Fedora.

Meanwhile, I'll have your thread moved to /Fedora.

Fedora 8 packages were moved to the " archive "
http://archives.fedoraproject.org/pu...6/os/Packages/

sg3_utils-1.23-2.fc8.i386.rpm
sg3_utils-devel-1.23-2.fc8.i386.rpm
sg3_utils-libs-1.23-2.fc8.i386.rpm
.....
And with this file in /etc/yum.repos.d

.. you should be able to install all 12,000 packages with
# yum install <package>
