Installing Fedora 7 with Sata, Ide Hard drives

Installing Fedora 7 on a box with a sata drive as
hda and Ide as hdb how do you set "jumper" on Ide drive to be reconized as hdb to install fedora on it, Windows is on sata (hda) drive , and how is this going affect the cd/dvd drive?

IDE drives are hda to hdd, primary master is hda while it's slave is hdb. Secandary master and slave are hdc and hdd respectively. So you jumper them accordingly. SATA drives are desigated sda,b,c etc.

That's how it used to work. These days it is all sdxyz. Yourc best bet is to ignore the jumpering and trust anaconda. Use the advanced partitioning method, and you'll see that anaconda detects the windows partition correctly... you tell anaconda to leave it alone, do not use LVM, and install grub to the windows drive MBR.

Simon Bridge, thank you for your response.
I'm doing this for a newbie that is going to make the jump, as soon as I talk to him I will find out
how the drives are reconized.
I plan on setting him up with a / ext3, /home ext3, and swap partitions.
I will get back to you if we have any other problems.
