Exclamation Installing

Hello Everyone,

First off I want to let everyone know that I am a complete newbie to linux. I was just wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of any helpful websites with information on how to use the terminal. I am currently enrolled in college, and I will be having my linux courses soon and would like to learn as much as possible on my own before entering these classes. But most importantly, I need some help "installing" things. I am completely lost. The two biggest things I am having trouble with right now are installing Yahoo Messenger (for the wife) and the sunJava console so she can chat in the yahoo chatrooms. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a newbie too. The best site I've found is http://www-130.ibm.com/developerworks.
Go there and register. You will then have access to some wonderful tutorials on BASH, EMACS, Samba, and loads of other stuff.

Good luck

to install things in fedora, use yum. Since you are going into a Linux class get familiar with the CLI. Go to www.fedorafaq.org to learn how to set up yum. From here you are download and install the java package to get the chats to run. Or hit the java site for the linux plugin. As for Yahoo messenger, you shuold be able to set up Gaim to access it. It is automatically there with a default install under internet>IM message.

Thank you for this link. I'll have to check on it later when I have more time. I need to be off to work now. Have a wonderful day.
