Unhappy Installed XFree86 version 4.3 and not I can't load the GUI

I have a Dell D600 that I install XFree86 on last night. After the installation was completed. I rebooted and now it won't load into the GUI. When I boot the system the screen in on up until right after the "Welcome to Fedora" press I for interactive start up, at which point the screen goes dark but the system is still running as normal.
How can recover or reinstall whatever X manager was installed.
Oh yeah, I'm running Fedora 9.

Talking Back in business

All I can say is thank goodness for Partimage, I had created the backup of my partition only a week ago. After full configuration I'll make another backup over the weekend.
