Installed NVIDIA drivers but cannot set resolution

hi,

I have fedora core 4 , installed on a toshiba satellite 2450 and i recently installed the NVIDIA drivers for the inbuilt card- GeForce4 420 Go.

However my resolution is still stuck at 800x600. How do i set it to a higher resolution. Below is a copy of my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

i tried tweaking stuff at NVIDIA X server settings panel, but i could not achieve it.

Code:

# Xorg configuration created by system-config-display

Section "ServerLayout"
        Identifier    "single head configuration"
        Screen      0  "Screen0" 0 0
        InputDevice    "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
        InputDevice    "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
        InputDevice    "Synaptics" "AlwaysCore"
EndSection

Section "Files"

# RgbPath is the location of the RGB database.  Note, this is the name of the
# file minus the extension (like ".txt" or ".db").  There is normally
# no need to change the default.
# Multiple FontPath entries are allowed (they are concatenated together)
# By default, Red Hat 6.0 and later now use a font server independent of
# the X server to render fonts.
        RgbPath      "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb"
        ModulePath  "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules"
        FontPath    "unix/:7100"

On Fedora Forums there is a how to called Getting nVidia cards to work in Fedora Core written by a guy named Firewing. he states
Quote:

If you are using a GeForce2, 3 or 4 (including MX), a you are going to have to use the nvidia-96xx drivers.
Simply follow the instructions like normal but replace:

* kmod-nvidia with kmod-nvidia-96xx
* xorg-x11-drv-nvidia with xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-96xx
* xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs-32bit with xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-96xx-libs-32bit
And he also advises to upgrade to FC 6.
I had your problem in FC 6 and upgrading to the 96xx resolved the issue for me.

Code:

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier  "Monitor0"
        VendorName  "Monitor Vendor"
        ModelName    "Unknown monitor"
        HorizSync    31.5 - 37.9
        VertRefresh  50.0 - 60.0
        Option            "dpms"
EndSection

Usually helps to also define the monitor.

Code:

# system-config-display

j0hn_galt 02-19-2007 04:57 AM

did it!...added the following to xorg.conf

in section Monitor:
HorizSync 28.0 - 49.0
VertRefresh 43.0 - 72.0

in section Device:
Option "IgnoreEDID" "true"
Option "IgnoreEdidFreqs" "true"
