Maybe a lack of punctuation and capital letters?

Did you actually install the FC5 or are you just booting from the first FC5 CD?

If you installed FC5, did it detect the RH9 during the installation? Did the FC5 install give you the option of choosing your default distro to boot? If so, which one did you choose?

What are the contents of your /boot/grub/menu.lst file?

Question

thanks ...what i did was just trying to boot with the first FC5 cd hoping it would ask me what i wanted to do (on the rh9 pc)but no chance... the bios on both pcs have cdrom to boot first and it does detect on the xp pc but not the rh9 one... both have the same cdrom maker LG ...!!!!
what could do this ?
the reason behind that is that i am unable to recover my root password on rh9 ...!so i decide to upgrade thinking perhaps this will not give me the answer but still to discover the fedora core .

Well, you can't "recover" your root password, but you can set a new one. While booting Red Hat just press "e" in GRUB. You will find 3 lines of code.

Goto to the 2nd line press "e"again and type "1" in the end, for example...

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.20-0.70 root=LABEL=/hdc=ide-scsi 1

Then press ENTER. Doing this will log you into single usermode.

Then press "b" and it will boot you into your command/shell. Just type "passwd" and change your root password. You don't need to know the old password.

I'm afraid I don't have anything for the CD-ROM problem other than maybe the drive is busted. Have you tried using it to boot something other than the FC5 CD? Or have you tried swapping CD-ROM drives to see if it works?

ndiswrapper

I had some problems with ndiswrapper.
The best way to install this is to configure YUM as described on fedorafaq.org
Then easily yum install ndiswrapper and it works fine.
