INIT: Id "X" respawning too fast: Disabled for 5 minutes

ok, computer info: P4 2.8 (or 2.6, cant remember) with hyperthreading, Asus mobo and vid card (Geforce), Hauppauge card, 40 gig maxtor HDD, 200 gig maxtor HDD, LG DVD-rom, LG DVD-RAM, Fedora core 1, Myth TV.

This computer sits under the tv, and is used mainly for recording shows for us. We use it for dvd's sometimes, and music too. It runs pretty good usually, but sometimes just has a brain freeze and needs a restart.

Here is what happened before the problem showed up. We went to watch "Stuck on You" on the box (through mythtv) and it froze up, totally freeze, no responce to anything. We hit the power button and when it was loading up, we noticed that it had about 5 diffrent errors while loading. The last error it shows is the one that i think is the problem, but im gonna go write down the other errors after i post this, since it'll take a while to write em. The error is as follows; "INIT: Id "X" respawning too fast: Disabled for 5 minutes"

This error apears every five minutes if you let it just run. restarting again doesn't work. Someone please help me, i need to watch my recorded Family Guy!

well, you could run init 3 as root to kill the x display manager you are running, and then try to start the x server manually with start x, and see what the errors are.

by the way, they will then be in /var/log/Xorg.0.log or something like that.

How can he do this when the machine won't boot? I have the same problem. I have just installed Slack on a sata drive in an athlon xp 2500+ machine dual booting xp.

Do I need to use a knoppix cd to get in to modify the file or reinstall or what? any ideas?:newbie:
