init.d deleted
can any one tell me wht to do my init.d is deleted and i don't want to install it again have fedora 3 ...Can any one suggest a site frm where i can download the file....

It can be done. Do you still have /etc/rc.d/rc5.d directory. Go into it and see if the softlinks still exist. With this list you can see which packages were more than likely installed. Then looking at the rpms on the cd pull out the scripts to be placed back into your init.d directory. If system is not bootable then use a live CD like knoppix to most of this work.
Quickest and simpliest fix. Reinstall as an upgrade not a fresh clean install. If need any of the data on the drive then using knoppix it can be pulled off to a usb flash drive of some type or a partition that you will not overwrite during reinstall. If just a few files you can email them to yourself. Now reinstall as an upgrade. Most files will not be lost but configuration of things like kde, gnome, and others in your home folder may change. If not for sure you can bootup with a live CD and rename your home folder and then reinstall. Just do not reformat the partition containing your /home directory. Hope this helps Brian1 |
