Info needed on Network card detection vs ifup-eth0 setup
Hi folks,
I just did a re-install of FC2 Test 2 (can't use 3 - nVidia/4k stack issue). Now I've got to get networking going again, but... although it's detecting my cards (Linksys WMP11 wireless & nVidia MCP 10/100 built in) neither one is actually getting fully set up to work. (see them in dmesg) What I mean is, looking in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts there is *no* ifcfg-eth0 or ifcfg-eth1 script in there. I would like a little education. If someone could explain or point me to a URL which has the information on how Linux, specifically RedHat/Fedora go about detecting network interface hardware and then go about allocating the appropriate kernel modules and setting up the necessary ifup -ethx scripts that go in /etc/sysconfig/network- scripts and firing up the interfaces for traffic. I would really like some in-depth understanding of all the details of this process - so as to be able to figure these things out on my own in the future. It would be MUCH appreciated. :D Doug P.S. These interfaces both used to work prior to trying FC2T3 on FC2T2. But something is funky about hardware detection and auto setup this time. Don't ask me what. That's part of the mystery. |
