Identifying process

Hi,

Is it possible to identify a running process uniquely other than using process id? The problem of using process id is that once the process gets restarted, the process id differs. Different process can have same name also, so its not possible to use process name too. Is there something which remains static for a process throughout? If so, how can we obtain it?
