IDE drives detected as /dev/sdX - Grub Fails Fedora 8

I have a VIA CX700 M2 chipset computer which was has two SATA drives and two IDE drives capability. I decided to give Feodra 8 a shot. I booted from my Feodra 8 Live CD and then I tried to install from it.

Problem: Fedora detects my regular IDE drive as /dev/sdc. In fact all the drives (SATA and IDE) are deteced as /dev/sdX. The problem with this is that GRUB is not able to load on something which is designated as /dev/sdX. When I tried to boot the system, the GRUB menu does not load and I end up with just GRUB written on the Left hand top corner of screen and it freezes. The Grub thinks that I am booting from a USB devices and hence GRUB is not able to load on it.

How can I tell Fedora to detect all my drives as /dev/hdX instead of /dev/sdX. Is there a Kernel parameter that we can give?

All Fedora versions post FC6 do this. Grub however still uses the same old format (even on Fedora). What does (or often does) change is the boot order. hda may or may not become sda.

But how do I install Fedora than? Because Grub does not install properly on /dev/sdX devices. Does that mean I cannot install Fedora on my computer? Sorry for my ignorance as I am completely new to Fedora.

I tried Gusty Gibbon Ubuntu just for testing, and it does detect them as /dev/hdX.
