I ran "yum check-update" and
So I came back to FC3
I just reinstalled FC3 it works fine, but when i I try to run "Up2date" it just freezes up on me. After I kill the PID and try to run it again, it shows me all the updates @ 0 k each. I'm not sure if that means I got them already or not so I ran yum check-update and it gave me this: [chemist@localhost ~]$ yum check-update Setting up Repo: base Setting up Repo: updates-released Thanks to every on that has ever taken the time to read and answer all the questions that get asked here. I couldn't find this question any where so here it is. I hope that the answer will help any one with the same question. Thanks again folks. |
Run yum update (as root) It will work out what needs updating - ask you if you're sure - and then go ahead and update everything...
All the Best Mark |
I did run as root, but it did'nt ask if I'm sure, it did'nt ask anything aaahhhhh I dont know whats goin on ??
Thanks for you input |
Ok I think I got it i was running "yun check-update" but when I put in just "yum update" it did it's thing

If you typed 'y', then yes, it's done.
|
I think you must have hit the <enter> key - The default answer is N (no) to updating everything.
Run it again. If it did complete properly last time there will be nothing to do, if it didn't it will just do the same thing again - just make sure you type "y" in answer to the question and it will do its stuff... All the Best Mark |
OK I got it Thanks very much I also Installed "yumex" any more info about that ?
|
Well I'm only just trying Yumex myself at the moment. I only installed it a few weeks ago.
The fundamental difference of course is the fact the Yumex is a GUI application whereas "yum" is a comand line application. Strictly speaking Yumex is a GUI "front-end" to Yum - it just issues the commands to yum behind the scenes so you don't have to. The big advantage for me with this GUI version is that you can more easily select those packages you wish to install with simple searches and clicks of the mouse. All stuff you can do with the command line version - but if you've grown up in a GUI environment (eg Windows) Yumex will be far easier to get to grips with. All the best Mark |
yumex takes place of "#yum update-<name of package>" in the sence that u dont have to type package name to install or update. this way u can see a list of what they. lets say u wanted a chat cleint? instead of trying to find a cleint than trying to yum install it u see it in list gives u breif defintions and u check it and it installs.

Any on hear a echo :)
