Go to www.fedorafaq.com or freshrpms.net. They have info on both yum and apt. I perfer yum since that's what FC ships with. Also, at fedorafaq they have a very good /etc/yum.conf file for you to copy (this is file that points yum in the right direction). I got mplayer (and the plugin), xine, firefox and thunderbrid all to install just fine with these repositories. Give it a shot.

Are you behind a firewall when you run this? I get the same problem when trying to operate from behind my work firewall.

i am not behind a firewall and yum used to work fine with the default "yum.config"

thanks

Here is one way that worked well for me on fedora core 2 I could not get yum or up-to-date working properly even with modifying the appro. config files--

get the appropriate apt file here---
http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/redhat/

or here--
http://dag.wieers.com/home-made/apt/FAQ.php#B

or here--
http://www.danhendricks.com/articles...ith%20apt-get/

I had no problems with apt.

Then copy all the instructions down and print out to reference while updating.

Justin_p and LLS thank you for the quick reply guys, i do appreciate it.

the GPG key was not being imported into the apt/sources files as it was supposed to.

I finally got it working.

Had no internet connection at home for more than a week.
freaking weather .

hope they reimburse me for it though.

thanks again.

Could you post what changes you had to make to get the GPG key imported into the /apt/sources file?

LLS --------------> just after the command line rpm --import ----------------->add keyname

or repository URL.

on fedoraforum.org they talk about it , check it out:

http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/arc...hp/t-1608.html

hope that helps

............also............as far as yum goes............it downloads only updates from already installed software

.............if you install apt.........install synaptic..........after that anything you install with synaptic or apt-get

..............yum up2date recognizes to download the update
