I know this has been reported but..

I am sorry in advance, I am sure I am not the only one with this problem, however I cannot find a solution. I am trying to install Fedora 8 on a Dell Latitude D830 with only one disk and no other OS on it. In fact I use Parted magic and clean the drive (format) ahead of time. After the install of Fed8, I get the following..

"no kernel packages were installed on your system. Your boot loader configuration will not be changed"

I have seen this everywhere, however no one has a definitive answer. Can someone please help me here. I have done research and cannot find a thing other than someone trying to do it with more than one OS, and I am not, I have just the one.

Many thanks ahead of time.

I never installed FC8, so I don't know the installation procedure but reading the I understand that you haven't kernel. Have you installed it? Does the installation complete without errors?

Installation completes fine. Right at the very end I get the message. It will then spit out the DVD, and reboot, and of course it can't find the boot partition, even though there is only one drive in the machine.

It appears that the installation did not complete. If you have a live CD (knoppix, etc.) run that and mount your drive and verify what has been installed. I believe you will find an incomplete installation, and, of course if that is the case a reinstallation will be required. If it looks like a complete install has occurred, try reinstalling grub.
