I can no longer log in as a normal user

Everytime I try to log in as 'localh' ( a normal user account) I get the following:
Could not chdir to home directory /home/localh: Permission denied
/usr/X11R6/bin/xauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/localh/.Xauthority

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

is /home/localh 's owner setted to "localh"?

"ls -l /home" as another user/root to check who owns localh and whether your permissions are setted.

yes the permission is set correctly, I tried that already
p.s I was messing with the file permissions on the /home directory and I got it to work ( go figure) anyways it was set at 744 and I adjusted it to 755. I didn't know that the /home directory needed execution privileges for everyone.
