I am now running FC 1 / Should I go to FC4?

What a great distro! I am amazed at the fact that a complete computer inept like me was able to install FC1, get the internet connection running, and figure out that I had a hardware problem with the sound card! On a single weekend I got my system up and running and during the week I was already being productive with my computer at home. But then, I see that in actuality I have an old version of the distro just when I was starting to think that I am a stud :newbie: Is it worth my time trying to move towards FC4 now that I have FC1 running with a fish named Wanda in it? :(

Good Day!

To be honest I didn't try out FC1, but FC4 is very nice. Because I'm an upgrade junkie I always like to get the latest version of absolutely everything (Except for hardware which is a bit expensive for a mortal like me :D ). On the other hand FC4 is on 5 CDs (4 installation disks and a rescue disk). That'll take some time to download..

Read some reviews about both, I'm sure you'll find a comparison somewhere..

Aha! I compared both distros after noticing the problem [I purchased a book with Fedora Core 1.0] and knowing that I would eventually want to be 'cool' I purchased one linux magazine with a DVD sporting Fedora Core 4.0 [Linux User and Developer] In fact, I already have three distros at my place: Debian 3.1, Xandros OCE, Fedora (1 and 4) :D

Xandros worked OK on my computer and I have only minor complaints [Their Xandros Networks is a buggy piece of software in my uninformed opinion...] I learned a lot with it!

Debian requires more geeking than I am willing to do but I understand that eventually I will have to learn how handle editors like VI or Emacs :(   :( to be decently proficient in Linux and be able to work with a truly, truly, madly free distro....

On the other hand, Fedora Core 1.0 worked remarkably well from the very beginning and if anything I will learn using it before junpimg to FC4

:newbie: :newbie: :newbie: <-- Me

FC4 has changed some things in respects to installing Java which is a pain.

FC4 even FC3 was a major speed upgrade compared to FC1, but hey if you don't want to no one is forcing you to upgrade.

FC4 all the way!

Well.... I think fedora core 4 would be the way to go... and if you are a gnome user you only really need the first 2 disks..

fedora core 4 is faster too
