Howto copy FC1 configuration to fresh FC2?

I have messed up my FC1 configuration, so I want to install a fresh FC2, instead of doing an upgrade install. I plan to re-install my applications, and I know how to handle such things as fstab and Grub, but I would like to be able to import things like my Open Office, Win4Lin, gedit, Evolution, Mozzilla, and Pan settings.

Where can I find tips on doing this? Can I expect the configuration files under /home to work? Are there configuration settings under /etc that can just be copied over?

Everything will be in the Users /home/username directory

tar cvzf username.tar.gz /home/username

as root will save everything to a tar file then you can copy it to another HD or burn it to a CD-R(W). You might also want to save /root .Whenever I get a new distro I fresh install instead of upgrading and untar ny former /home directory before logging in that user account..

If you've your /home in different partition, you're safe to just install the new FC2 into the / partition. If you don't have /home in different partition, you may want to think about creating it now ..
