How to selectively install from a RPM

Hello All,

I have an FC5 installation and am trying to install some programmes that need makedepend during configuration. makedepend is not included in FC5 installation - I don't know why. I found out that imake-1.0.1-3.i386.rpm contained makedepend so I have downloaded it. But this RPM contains a lot more stuff that I don't want to instal on my machine, because I don't know whether or not I will need them and I am not familiar with what they do.
So is there a way that I could only extract and install makedepend from the RPM? Can I use yum to do that, if so how, or do I have to use another command? Would it extract everything else that makedepend would need (if any) to be installed correctly?

Many thanks in advance,
AT

you just don't do this, it's not the way it works. for simplicitly and consistently you should always install software via yum. if your software isn't directly available on the standard yum repos check out others like livna, dag or rpmforge to get what you want in the correct framework.

Thanks Chris. Do you mean that I should be able to find the makedepend as a stand-alone programme from somewhere, download and install it on the FC5? Should it be one for the FC5 or any makedepend can be installed on FC5?
